INTRODUCTION CLASS ACTIVITY
Ciarán bought a new pair of €160 Nike Air Max trainers on sale from a sports shop in his local town for €80. He wore them when he got home and then noticed the sole coming away on one shoe. He brought them back the next day but the shop said there was nothing they could do as he had already worn them and he bought them on sale. He can’t afford new ones, so he has started looking on Vinted for a cheaper second- hand pair.
His sister Maya bought a similar pair of runners on ASOS. A week after receiving them, she tried them on at home and decided she didn’t really like the colourway, so sent them back for a different pair.
Read each statement and decide whether it is True or False.
1. The shop is correct. Ciarán has no rights because he already wore the runners.
2. Maya can get a refund because she bought her runners online.
3. Buying something in a sale means you have fewer rights if something goes wrong or is faulty with a good.
4. If you buy from a seller on Vinted, you have the same rights as buying from a shop.
5. If a good doesn’t come with a guarantee, there is no chance of getting a refund if it becomes faulty.
