INTRODUCTION
When a business opens in a town, it has an impact on the surrounding area. Some changes are good. Some might be bad. For example, a new café might bring jobs and people into the village. It might also cause traffic and more litter. A large factory opening in a town might pay millions of euro in wages to local families. It might also use a huge amount of electricity or water. This chapter examines how a business affects the community around it.
We will look at positives and negatives across three areas: economic, social and environmental.
