Every country must decide who controls its resources and how they are used to produce goods and services. The way a country organises and manages the use of its economic resources is called an economic system.
There are three main types of economic system: 1. Centrally Planned Economy
In a centrally planned economy, the government decides how resources are used and what goods and services are produced. There is very little private ownership. E.g. North Korea
Essential goods and services, such as healthcare and education, can be provided to
all citizens, regardless of income. There is little incentive for businesses to innovate or improve quality, which can lead
to a lower standard of living.
2. Free Market Economy
In a free market economy, private individuals and businesses are free to decide how to use or allocate resources. Citizens can set up businesses and produce whatever goods and services they choose. The government plays a very limited role. E.g. The United States of America
