In April, we celebrated the opening of the Chain of Rocks Park at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. This historic and scenic park spans the Mississippi River. The bridge, originally built in 1929 as part of Route 66, is known for its unique 30-degree bend in the middle and was once a major river crossing for drivers before closing to traffic in 1970. Now the bridge is open for pedestrian and cyclists to use, offering breathtaking views of the Mississippi River. The surrounding park also provides picnic spots, walking trails, and access to nature along the riverfront. The park is a great destination for history buffs, cyclists, walkers, and nature lovers looking to experience a piece of Route 66 heritage while enjoying a peaceful outdoor setting.
