Save Lives Now! Initiative Begins Saint Louis County is a key partner in a regional
effort led by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments to address violent crime through the Save Lives Now! initiative. This collaborative program joins law enforcement, service providers, and community leaders to reduce homicides and shootings through evidenced based and community informed strategies. This regional initiative prioritizes engaging individuals at the highest risk of violence, using focused deterrence, cognitive behavioral therapy, and street outreach as its core strategies.
Evidence-Based-Strategies
• Focused Deterrence – An operational approach that combines law enforcement and social services that prioritizes engaging with individuals at the highest risk of violence.
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – A form of psychotherapy that helps individuals alter distorted thought processes and cope with trauma.
• Street Outreach – Uses credible messengers who live within the community to create pathways away from violence and work to address underlying risk factors related to violent behavior.
By being regionally focused on accountability,
intervention, and engagement, Saint Louis County and Save Lives Now! aims to reduce homicides and shootings by 20 percent over three years, creating safer communities and a stronger region.
