Setting the Standard for Excellence in
CHOICES Program: Empowering Change
CHOICES, the substance use treatment
program in the Justice Center, continued to change lives in 2024, with 139 participants engaging in this evidence-based substance use recovery program. By providing tools to build better decision-making skills and foster personal growth, CHOICES has become a cornerstone of the department’s rehabilitation efforts and guides people toward a life free from the shackles of addiction.
A Growing Team of Dedicated Professionals
Justice Services welcomed 196 new
Corrections Officers in 2024, bolstering the department’s ability to provide safe and effective management of the Justice Center. This year, the department held a graduation ceremony in Memorial Park outside County headquarters in Clayton.
Highlighting Success Stories Justice Services ended the year on a
heartwarming note by collaborating with Maxine Clark, Founder of Build-A-Bear Workshop. The Clark Family Foundation provided teddy bears to children of incarcerated parents during the Christmas holiday—an act of kindness that brought joy and comfort to families. Additionally, Justice Services completed
office renovations at minimal cost to the County, thanks to the efforts of probationers on court-ordered community supervision. The year concluded with the creation of a memorial wall honoring two slain Justice Services Corrections Officers, a powerful tribute to their sacrifice. A formal recognition ceremony is planned for 2025.
Expanding Opportunities Through Training
In 2024, the department offered
approximately 24 training programs, including the barber training program. These initiatives equip participants with vocational skills that help pave the way for successful reintegration into the community.
