Wildcare Park in Spanish Lake Historic First at
Meet Roxie, the first animal born at Saint
Louis Zoo WildCare Park! This adorable female Grevy’s zebra made history when she arrived on April 16, weighing a healthy 95.8 pounds. This breathtaking North Saint Louis County property is being transformed into a world- class safari park and conservation hub, set to open to the public in 2027.
Why Roxie’s Birth Matters:
Grevy’s zebras are the most endangered species of zebra, with fewer than 2,500 individuals remaining in the wild. Every new addition to this critically vulnerable species is a step forward for global conservation efforts, and Roxie’s arrival brings hope for her species’ future.
WildCare Park is already home to 12 critically endangered addax, a critically endangered Somali wild ass, and now three Grevy’s zebras, including Roxie. And this is just the beginning. When the park opens, it will host more than 250 animals, including giraffes, rhinos, kangaroos, and other
16
threatened species, creating a sanctuary for wildlife and a destination for nature enthusiasts. While the park is still under construction and closed to the public, Roxie and her companions are paving the way for a bold new chapter in wildlife conservation.
