counters and cupboards as shown on the plans and with reference to the actual installation aboard Sackville. I joggled the stove pipe so it exited the galley roof to starboard of the mast, another diff erence between Chicoutimi and many of its sisters. T e galley details were adapted from parts obtained from the model railroad hobby shop. (Figure 64)

It is possible to see down the funnel, so aſt er cutting the required hole in the deck I bent a piece of plastic sheet to represent the boiler uptakes, painting it fl at black. (Figure 65) T e casing was painted the usual fl at white with gunship gray deck. Aſt er completing the engine room and galley skylights and boiler room hatches, the completed casing was glued onto the main deck and trimmed with 0.080-inch angle per the drawings. (Figure 66)

T e 2-pounder gun and searchlight Canadian corvettes were built with the anti-aircraſt gun tub at the aſt er end of the casing, abaſt the engine room skylight. T e 2-pounder anti-aircraſt weapon intended for that mount was not available for the initial fi ſt y-four ships, so they went to war with 0.50-inch caliber machine guns in the tub. As the war went on and the ships went into dock for their fi rst refi ts the 2-pounder was added, and some had a searchlight platform fi tted to the forward end of the gun tub (although the light itself was not always available immediately). At the same time the main mast was removed, and an angle iron spar was welded to the gun tub or light platform to fi x the aſt ends of the low frequency radio aerial.


My Chicoutimi photographs show that by 1943 the mainmast was gone and the ship carried the 2-pounder gun and a searchlight mounted in the new platform. Drawings were obtained from my primary reference: T e Flower Class Corvette Agassiz. I took photographs during my visits to HMCS Sackville and found others on Wikipedia.

I began by building the tub and platform from styrene sheet and tubes, trimming the tub with 0.060-inch half round section. (Figure 67) I used the Chicoutimi photographs to glean details of the searchlight platform as this feature varied considerably between
