front of the shroud gang and passes it through to the second tweezers behind the shrouds. With a bit of practice and some care with the tensions, rattling down the shrouds goes quite quickly. (Figure 38)
T ese few techniques were all that was needed to carry on the process, moving upwards to the topmasts and then the topgallants, installing the shrouds, stays, backstays and ratlines. Only the diameters of the lines changed, not the procedures. (Figure 39)
Soon enough the last line was stretched and secured and the ship was ready for the spars and the sails they support, and the running rigging that moves and controls them. T ese will be covered, along with fi nal details, in the fi nal segment of this article. (Figure 40)
