17. Aſt er building up the churning foam atop the wave crests with the white FlexPaste, painting a transition color will help blend the stark white foam crests into the darker water surrounding them.


Once the FlexPaste has been applied, touch-up with lighter acrylic paint hues. A small brush applying a lighter turquoise hue is shown in Figure 17. T ese small brushstrokes fall behind the foam crests and will lend smoother-looking visual transitions to the wave tops. T is step is tedious but very important to help achieve the most realistic water simulation.


Step Four: Making water wet I t is time to get a wet, shiny look to the entire surface of the water. (Figure 18) T is requires a Liquitex gloss


medium gel that dries completely transparent and glossy. T is is the fi nal step and it magically brings everything to life. Do not hesitate to use multiple layers of the gloss medium.


Once the model was set into the cutout in the painted base, I applied the same opaque white, glossy medium FlexPaste to the hull areas as rested against the edges of the foam cutout. I shaped the thick paste around the stem (cutwater) and the rudder with a paintbrush. Several coats were required to achieve the
