DIARY PLANNER ❘ WHAT’S ON

LET’S GO! Shall we banish those winter blues? It’s carnival time!

CONTEMPORARY WORLDS OF POSSIBILITY

Ray Bradbury famously defined science fiction as the ‘art of the possible’, and while the genre sets its stories in the future, it is also speaking to us about the present. In a landmark project, the

Centre Pompidou-Metz approaches science fiction as ‘a laboratory of hypotheses that manipulate and extrapolate the repressive

norms and dogmas of today’s world, its ambitions, social afflictions, opportunities and perils’. The exhibition ‘A Gateway To Possible

Worlds’ brings together over 200 works from the late 1960s to the present day, delving into the worlds of art and science fiction and exploring the bonds between imaginary worlds and our reality. With the help of artists, authors, architects and film directors,

we are invited to reflect on the current demands for 21st-century utopias and how to create a seedbed for hope. Until April 10

COPYCATS The copy has a long heritage and a real dignity in art history, unlike its less desirable cousin, the forgery. Sometimes a copy is the only way we know about works that have otherwise disappeared, as well as being a creative act in its own right. Closed during renovations, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Valenciennes invites us to dive into this lesser-known practice with an open-air exhibition in its grounds. Until February 21 expositioncopieurs.fr
