Gold filled is also known as rolled gold or gold bonded and is created by mechanically bonding a layer of gold to a layer of base metal - usually brass. The outer gold layer must be at least 1/20 of the overall metal content by weight, and is therefore a much thicker and more durable alternative to gold plating. Unlike gold plated metal, gold filled can be soldered using 9ct or 14ct gold easy solder.
this decorative gallery strip is manufactured with a brass core that is fused with an outer layer of 12ct gold (approx 2%). it is perfect for making rings and bangles as well as interesting toggles and pendants and because it's a bonded metal, polishing is permittable.
