THEME 7 LET FREEDOM RING Focus on ... blurbs A blurb is a short description of a book written for promotional purposes.
Blurbs appear on the back covers of books. They can be written by the author or the publisher and may contain quotations from others. Like reviews, blurbs briefly describe what the book is about without giving the plot away. Unlike reviews, blurbs are always positive and are designed to convince readers to buy and read the book.
Work in pairs to examine the blurb below. What stands out? What do you learn about the book?
Poet and Civil Rights Activist Maya Angelou also published seven autobiographies. Here is the blurb from the back cover of one of them, titled I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
