Focus on ... foreshadowing Foreshadowing is a warning or an indication about a future event.
This literary device is used in films or stories to give the reader an expectation of what is to come.
The student got dressed in a hurry and ran from his house. ‘I feel like I am forgetting something,’ he said to himself.
In the example above, the reader is made aware of the possibility that there is something unsettling the student. He has alluded to the idea that he may have forgotten something. This could feature again later in the story when he realises what he has forgotten.
