1. (a) Take a look at the four images at the start of this unit (page 141). Consider the association each image has with the theme. Rank the images in order from most relevant (1) to least relevant (4).
(b) Share the image that you feel ranks the highest. Explain your choice and listen as others share their choice with you.
(c) What image would you choose to replace the image that you feel ranks the lowest? Describe the image you would replace it with and explain your choice.

1. In this chapter, you revised the past tense. The following passage is written in the present tense. Rewrite it in the past tense.
It’s hard being left behind. I wait for Henry, not knowing where he is, wondering if he’s okay. It’s hard to be the one who stays.
I keep myself busy. Time goes faster that way.
I go to sleep alone, and wake up alone. I take walks. I work until I’m tired. I watch the wind play with the trash that’s been under the snow all winter.
2. Write a sentence using any three of the words shown below. When you have written your sentence, read it out loud. Can your classmates identify the correct spellings of the words used?
