Study reveals range of efficacy
Partnership for synthetic biology
Sederma has announced a new partnership with Alganelle, an innovative French biotechnology company who implement microalgae synthetic biology for the sustainable development and production of natural molecules. Alganelle’s disruptive technology provides high-quality raw material, safer and obtained from
Certified natural caprylyl glycol
Cosphatec has launched its new blend Cosphaderm Dicapo natural, consisting of natural caprylyl glycol. This breakthrough means it
has become possible to produce caprylyl glycol from completely plant-based raw materials for the very first time. The new COSMOS- approved Cosphaderm Dicapo natural is therefore opening up new possibilities for manufacturers of certified natural cosmetics. Cosphatec is now one of
the first companies to offer this ingredient with a COSMOS certification and when caprylyl glycol is combined with natural glyceryl caprylate and natural propanediol, a truly unique blend is created. As a result, the company is able to enhance the positive properties of each raw material and overcome their previous weaknesses. The new blend remains effective across a broad pH spectrum (3.5 - 7.0), making it ideal as an alternative preservative to complement organic acids, for example, with a better price/performance ratio.

sustainable processes that respect the environment and biodiversity. Sederma is focused on the
move from chemical synthesis to synthetic biology for a cleaner production of its best sellers. Also, Sederma’s expertise in peptide science for cosmetic applications, combined with Alganelle’s unique know-how to engineer microalgae
used as photosynthetic cell factories will allow the production of cosmetic active ingredients of the future. This common project of biological synthesis of one of Sederma’s ingredient with Alganelle’s optimised microalgae platform is in the development phase and a patent will be published end of August this year.
Revisiting beauty rituals with textures
Influenced by ancestral, healing and local beauty rituals, Breathtaking Rituals, from Seppic, is based on six traditional beauty routines full of symbols and beliefs that have been revisited by surprising, innovative and transforming textures. The Mask’Mallow formula is
inspired by the Indian Haldi Ritual. It is a turmeric paste applied on the face of the bride and groom on the eve of the wedding to reveal the radiance of the skin. The Mask’Mallow formula is a solid sleeping mask with a velvet and powdery skin feel that brings out natural radiance. Drawing inspiration from
traditional medicine and grandmother’s remedies, Healing Rituals were created to protect and soothe the skin. The Seppic teams created Scrub’Marin, a foaming scrub for an unctuous application on face and chest. Its creamy foam has been objectively assessed by a panel of sensory experts. Influenced by climate and by local living conditions,
Researchers have found how the natural super- antioxidant, Pycnogenol, can safeguard skin from seasonal changes and environmental stress. A new peer reviewed, randomised, double- blind, placebo-controlled crossover study shows that daily supplementation with Pycnogenol French maritime pine bark extract, distributed by Horphag Research, may help to significantly retain skin hydration, increase skin elasticity, and reinforce skin barrier function for those exposed to urban environmental pollution, as well as seasonal temperature and humidity variations. In addition, the study found Pycnogenol to increase skin lightening during seasonal changes when dark spots can emerge. “So many of us are awaiting this summer to truly enjoy the outdoors after a brutal winter and a long pandemic year. I personally cannot wait to be outside, and that means we have to be proactive in protecting our skin from heat, humidity, solar radiation, and pollution,” says natural health physician and author, Dr Fred Pescatore. “This new study shows that daily supplementation with Pycnogenol counteracts damaging environmental stress factors and improves skin barrier function, even when exposed to rigid conditions.”
Local Rituals were developed to answer an ideal of the local beauty representation. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Japanese routine, the Seppic formulators have revisited this 2-step ritual, using simple products to ensure effective make-up removal while protecting the skin. The Japan’Ease Cleansing Oil formula is an oily make-up remover with a unique refreshing skin feel: a soft and light texture, easy to rinse off and providing a non-greasy finish (significantly proven by a panel of experts in sensory analysis).
