“Land-based is back to pre- Covid levels, but it is different. It is back in terms of the amount of revenue we are seeing from land-based play, but there are less players spending more money. Thankfully, in Czech and

Slovakia there are limitations

in terms of the amount players can play in land-based

locations, with limits on stakes and time on device, plus

enforced breaks. So, we are still very positive about the land-based market, especially as we’ve enjoyed a huge

response to the new cabinet.” Radek Pucek, e-gaming

Pavel Michalcio: It’s different compared to the traditional land-based business, in which you know all the owners and CEOs, with many meetings and experiences shared, insomuch as you build a strong relationships with land-based customers. Te online business, as is its nature, is more remote. We conduct Skype or Teams calls and discuss development with the technical departments of the operators, without contact with the owners of the business. It is very different from the casino/gaming hall business, which is much more about the personal relationship.

Do you see e-gaming as a different business post-pandemic?

Radek Pucek: I think it is not so much a different business, we are still games creators, but what is totally different is the physical contact we had in the past with clients. It was necessary to sell and distribute land-based product, but for online, as Pavel stated, it is very different.

Pavel Michalcio: I think it is gratifying that a company the size of e-gmaing can have its piece of cake in both land-based and online. When you look at the huge companies in these sectors, such as Playtech and Novomatic, it is remarkable that e-gaming is able to carve out a profitable niche for our business among these giants.

Is land-based back to pre-Covid levels for e- gaming?

Radek Pucek: Yes and no. Land-based is back to pre-Covid levels, but it is different. It is back in terms of the amount of revenue we are seeing from land-based play, but there are less players spending more money. Tankfully, in Czech and Slovakia there are limitations in terms of the amount players can play in land-based

locations, with limits on stakes and time on device, plus enforced breaks. So, we are still very positive about the land-based market, especially as we’ve enjoyed a huge response to the new cabinet at ICE.

In terms of creating physical product with supply chain issues - is this getting better?

Pavel Michalcio: Some companies are still unable to fulfil existing orders, but it is getting better and better as we progress into the year.

In terms of growth - is online the growth sector for e-gaming?

Pavel Michalcio: For a company like e-gmaing, regarding the size and development resources available to us, it is hard to progress into new markets with land-based product, which means that it is comparatively easier and simpler to expand into new markets via online. Tis year we are seeking to retain our position in existing land-based markets, while developing and increasing the number of integrations and jurisdictions for online.

If you’re looking to enter a new market in the future, is the prudent route online first, build market awareness, and then launch land- based?

Pavel Michalcio: It’s certainly less complicated to enter a new online market as opposed to breaking into a new land-based market. Teoretically, we’d look first to enter with online and then consider a land-based entry having established a player and operator base.

Was an opportunity lost by e-gaming not having developed its online division ahead of the pandemic?

Radek Pucek: I don’t believe so. e-gaming was born as a family company and we want to stay with this size of team. We’d like to grow the business, but sustainably, and I’m happy that we remain ‘family-sized.’ We like our jobs, our roles in the business and we have a personal life too - which gives us a great balance between work and home.

How do you continue to scale?

Pavel Michalcio: Our strategy to invest in quality games regarding performance. However, there’s also a demand for quantity from operators, as they have a pipeline and a marketing team to feed with new games, but it’s not a strategy that suits us. We believe it is better to build quality and not quantity. When you have a Netflix-style library of games it becomes too much.

Radek Pucek: Te final result of the casino is made by quality games, but to attract the player to your casino in the first place you need also quantity.. It is easy to produce 100 game per year, but if you keep reskinning your past games, the players will eventually find you out.
