Online Shatters Pennsylvania Records


Betting volume at Pennsylvania’s online and retail sportsbooks remained near all-time highs in December with more than $750m in wagers.


Online casinos and poker rooms produced a record $127.6m GGR in December, topping the previous best of $117m reached in October.

US - Mississippi honours Kozuki Konami Holding’s Founder, Chairman, and Representative Director, Kagemasa Kozuki, has been named in the Mississippi Gaming Hall of Fame, Class of 2022 by the


Mississippi Gaming & Hospitality Association (MGHA).


Mr. Kozuki established and expanded Konami’s presence across the state of Mississippi, as both a gaming provider and community supporter. He will be officially inducted to the Mississippi Gaming Hall of Fame during the 2022 Southern Gaming Summit, on May 5, 2022 at Biloxi’s Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.


US - BetMGM on track to hit $1.3bn in 2022 BetMGM, jointly owned by MGM Resorts International and Entain, believes it will be able to generate revenues of $850m this year, ahead of management expectations and up nearly five times from prior year, with that amount to reach $1.3bn in 2022.


BetMGM said it was currently achieving market share in line with its long-term target of 20 to 25 per cent in US sports betting and iGaming. It is the number two operator for sports betting and iGaming across the markets in which it operates with a 24 per cent market share for the three months to November 2021


It remains the market leader in iGaming with 30 per cent market share for the three months to November 2021 in the markets in which it operates and is now live in 19 jurisdictions with four markets in iGaming and 19 sports betting markets.


It expects to reach approximately 40 per cent of the US adult population with two further jurisdiction launches as well as launch in Canada and Puerto Rico in the coming months.

With a record-shattering $127.6m in online casino revenue in December, too, the month closed a year that brought more than $6.5bn in sports wagers, a US-best $122.5m in tax revenue from sports betting, and nearly $1.3bn in online casino revenue.


“With so many records set this fall, a modest pullback in December is not a particular surprise,” said Katie Kohler, an analyst for PlayPennsylvania.com. “Importantly, though, sportsbooks remained near all-time highs for wagering, extending a four-month stretch in which wagering reached nearly $3m. It’s been a fitting end to an impressive year.”


In December, Pennsylvania’s sportsbooks accepted $750.4m in wagers, which was up 36.8 per cent from $548.6 million in December 2020, according to official data. December’s betting volume was the third-most ever.


A month after gross revenue spiked to $84.9m, bettors won at a far higher rate in December. Tat created $38m in gross revenue for sportsbooks, down 16.3 per cent from $45.3m in December’s 2020. After $19.1m in promotional spending, sportsbooks closed the month with $18.8m in taxable revenue, yielding $6.8m in state taxes and local share assessments.

In December, online sportsbooks took in $693.3m in wagers, or 92.4 per cent of the state’s handle. FanDuel topped the online market with $246.8m in wagers, or 32.9 per cent per cent of the state’s online market. “With college football winding down in December, betting on NBA and college basketball made up the difference,” Kohler said. “Basketball betting quietly has become an important cog for sportsbooks, especially in the Northeast.”

Te Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has voted unanimously to award a licence to GW Cumberland Op. Co., (Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment, Inc, operator of Parx Casino) to construct a Category 4 , 500 slot casino with electronic gaming terminals in Shippensburg Township, Cumberland County. Te award concludes a process the Board began on 22 February 2018 when Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment secured the right to locate a casino with a winning bid of $8.1m at the fourth Category 4 auction held by the Board. Tey filed an application with the Board later that year to locate a newly constructed facility just off Exit 27 of Route 81, but later amended the application to place the casino in the same principality.
