January saw a flurry of announcements from gaming suppliers withdrawing from the ICE London show in April due to Covid, Easter and Brexit concerns.
A series of announcements from land-based gaming equipment manufacturers, each stating their withdrawal from the event, has rocked the ICE London show. Te new dates of April 12-14 were condemned by several companies when they were announced at the start of January, but by mid-month this had galvanised into exhibitors declaring they would not be participating at the event.
Merkur Gaming confirmed its withdrawal mid- month, stating that the Easter holiday period, logistical challenges of Brexit and worry for the safety of staff and visitors due to the continued presence of Covid-19, “all of these factors combined to reach the inescapable conclusion that the visitor numbers (both those UK-based and those wishing to travel from overseas) will be severely impacted in a negative way.”
While companies such as Aristocrat and Scientific Games removed themselves from the exhibition floorplan without official announcements, it was arguably the announcement that NOVOMATIC was cancelling its presence at ICE London 2022 that caused the biggest shock wave, with additional announcements from Zitro and TCSJohnHuxley.

least, the unfavourable and unavoidable alternative date – have culminated in a situation in which participating in the show is no longer viable for a growing number of land-based gaming suppliers,” said the press statement from NOVOMATIC.
Zitro and TCSJohnHuxley mirrored these sentiments, explaining that the decision to cancel participation had not been an easy one, but there were many reasons for the withdrawal, chief among them the worldwide concern over the Omicron variant, the inconvenience of the new show dates clashing with the Easter break, and the expected low attendance particularly of customers from international destinations.
Tristan Sjöberg, TCSJohnHuxley Executive Chairman stated, “We all want the show to go ahead, but it has to be at the right time and in the right conditions. Te decision to pull out of ICE has been made reluctantly, but the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers has to be our main priority. Also the timing of holding a gaming show during Holy Week is unfortunate. As we emerge from this crisis, we all need to pull together to support each other and our industry, but we need to ensure our decisions are also based on the right market conditions.”
