With so much upheaval it is perhaps no surprise that gaming laws may often take years before

reaching the final vote and then might fall at the very last hurdle or languish in a committee. Delays, turnarounds and changes to existing gaming laws need to be examined with the often volatile nature of Latin American politics in mind. In addition, things can change dramatically as we are now seeing in Mexico. In November, the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador banned slots and effectively banned the casino industry in the long term. Te new rules also prohibit Mexican gaming firms from partnering with third- party companies.
Yet despite these difficulties lawmakers are making progress on several fronts and there is still plenty of room for growth in many markets and sectors. Tere could well be opportunities in Paraguay in the long term as lawmakers have presented a bill that would modify Paraguay’s gambling law
(law No. 1,016/97) to end the way the act allows for monopolies in certain sectors especially sportsbetting which is currently licensed to just one operator. In Argentina the government of Córdoba province announced that online gambling would final launch in January 2024 with the market divided between four licensed operators.
