Page 29 ASM Supplies SMT Line to C2MI
Suwanee, GA —Inaugurated in 2012, the MIQro In- novation Collaborative Center (C2MI) is an R&D fa- cility in Bromont, Quebec, Canada, whose goal is to reduce the risk associated with product and process development in order to accelerate com- mercialization of new technology. Recently, the center identified the requirement for an ad- vanced SMT assembly line and selected ASM Assembly Systems’ DEK printing, SIPLACE placement and ASM ProcessLens SPI platforms for its expanded capability. With funding support from the Canadian
government, industrial partners and the Uni- versité de Sherbrooke, C2MI began its exis- tence with a heavy emphasis on MEMS, ad- vanced packaging, and characterization and reliability testing of microelectronic parts. In- creasingly the need for turnkey production ex- pertise led the C2MI technical team to source and install a next-genera- tion SMT line. C2MI has relationships with
many of the world’s most forward- thinking technology companies, which made it essential to select an equip- ment set that was capable of every- thing from 008004 (0201 metric) place- ment to closed-loop 5D solder paste in- spection to Hermes and CFX capabili-
YXLON Offers Scalable X-ray Inspection
Hudson, OH — YXLON’s Cheetah EVO SMT harnesses the combined power of several YXLON innova- tions, including FeinFocus X-ray tube technology, high-power target technology, a finely calibrated, long- life, flat-panel detector, and a manip- ulator with cushioned bearings. The variety of sample tables ensures that it can generate 2D and 3D images in extremely high resolution.
ty for Industry 4.0 compatibility. The ASM advanced assembly line delivers on these C2MI objectives. It includes a DEK NeoHori-
zon 03iX printer, ASM ProcessLens 5D SPI system and two SIPLACE TX placement platforms, one with a SIPLACE SpeedStar placement head and the other equipped with a SIPLACE TwinStar and a SIPLACE MultiStar head. These systems form the core of the line
and enable assembly flexibility with a wide component range, from 008004 (0201 metric) components all the way up to parts as large as 7.9 x 4.9 in. (200 x 125 mm). In addition, the line integrates Hermes and CFX connectivity, streamlining set up and delivering an Indus-

Cheetah EVO SMT X-ray inspection system. In addition to imaging excel-
lence, the operator can expect simple, user-friendly controls and YXLON FGUI software, as well as compre- hensive automation. One-click solu- tions make manual inspections ef- fortless, while easy teach-in makes it simple to program the automated procedures that guide the operator through inspections. The Cheetah EVO SMT can be
upgraded for CT with an optional mi- croCT module. This enables CT for industrial quality assurance, with in- depth 3D examination of inspection items with virtual cross sections and layers. With its user-friendly YXLON QuickScan®module, it deliv- ers 3D images and virtual slices
