end use. We are all exposed to elec- tronics from a commercial aspect, but I had never really thought about electronics from a defense or medical perspective. I had a wonderful men- tor at Teledyne, Dorothy Bralock, who took me under her wing. She fed my fascination by sending me to elec- tronics classes and various certifica- tion programs inside and outside of Teledyne.” After her husband took a new
job in Atlanta, they moved to Georgia and Diana took her knowledge and education and used it to start the first electronics soldering and assem- bly training program at Gwinnett Technical College (Gwinnett Tech). Through the years at Gwinnett Tech, the state economic group, Quick Start, was able to use the program to leverage several large electronic manufacturing companies to the area.
Through Gwinnett Tech and in-
terfacing and training employees of several manufacturing facilities, Diana decided that helping others as her mentor had helped her would be her focus. Diana received her bachelor’s
degree from UGA but took several additional business and technical classes at universities including Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern. “I worked at Gwinnett Tech for 15 years with the last 12 serving as di- rector of technical programs in the continuing ed department.” Diana has worked for the past
21 years for STI Electronics in Ala- bama. She worked together with STI’s founder, Jim Raby, along with his son and current president and CEO David Raby, to bring several technical seminars to the Atlanta area. Through that relationship, STI offered Diana a director of training position at its facility in Madison, Al- abama. She was promoted to VP of operations and training resources within a few years and is currently still serving in that role. STI has pro- vided electronics assembly training and certifications for thousands of students over the years (including in- ternational students), opening doors for individuals that were previously closed. When looking towards the fu-
ture, Diana is content with all she has achieved. “I like to be the best I can be in all aspects of my life,” she says. “Wife, mother, grandmother, vice president, mentor — my goal is to leave every situation or moment better than how I found it.” Diana also believes that women
can easily succeed in the electronics industry. “Don’t focus on electronics being a male-dominated field. Life is and can be what you make it. Find an area you are passionate about and look for opportunities to make your mark.” She continues, “ Find someone
in your field of interest that is suc- cessful and knowledgeable and then become their shadow. Always, al- ways, always think outside of the box. No one is better suited for any position regardless of gender than someone looking for a more efficient, economical, and easier way of accom- plishing something. Women seem to be more motivated and better at this than most.”

Margy Koshnood, Vice President of Sales, Inovaxe Corporation
Ever since she was young,
Margy Koshnood was interested in math and science. She graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science in petroleum en- gineering. “At the time, there were only four other women in my gradu- ating class,” she says. “Unfortunate- ly, when I graduated, the oil industry was not going well. My opportunities in the oil business were all overseas and I was not quite ready to go that far away from home. Instead, I head- ed to south Florida and accepted my first career position with Atlantic Backplane, a division of the Tyco
Printed Circuit Group.” Tyco was a contract manufacturer of backplanes for the aerospace and telecom indus- tries, as well as the government. This position led Margy into
quality engineering where she real- ized that she enjoyed the electronics field. After several years in the in- dustry, with Margy climbing the cor- porate ladder, she and her husband Ben started Zurvahn, a design engi- neering and EMS provider with mul- tiple facilities, including an opera- tion in Mexico. After dealing with inventory
and material management issues, they determined that there were not
