Eagan, MN — Impedance mismatch in contacts in test sockets can affect the signal integrity (SI) performance when testing high-speed semi - conductor ICs. This disconti- nuity is mainly caused by mechanical features in inter- connects/contactors that may result in impedance changes. The signal integrity an -
alysis of high-speed electronic designs re quires that the interconnect models be valid over a wide bandwidth. By analyzing s-parameters, it is easy to understand the fre- quency-dependent behavior of interconnects/contacts of a test socket. Much information is embed- ded in the s-parameters, and there are many methods to manipulate the s-parameters to reveal a structure’s electromagnetic properties in detail. Engineers need the ability to cor-
relate simulation results with meas- urements in both frequency and time
domains. Being able to do so increases confidence in the design flow, and results in better designs or lower costs.
