Porvair Sciences announce eGecko² - an automated barcode application system that provides the ideal high throughput solution for precisely applying barcode labels onto racks of plates and Petri dishes.
Based upon a robust and proven label printer and print engine, the eGecko² is a completely integrated printer and application unit in one, requiring only an electrical supply for operation.
A choice of easily exchangeable operating heads allows you to apply labels on both fl at and curved surfaces. Programmable Z axis motion control application macros allow the eGecko² to automatically adjust between plate types (shallow to deep well) and Petri dishes and then position and apply the labels accordingly.
Powerful, yet highly intuitive software enables the creation of label position and the ability to run the eGecko² automation simultaneously. Integrated third party software, Bartender, is used to directly drive data to the printer. Alternative data can be used upon request.
Using its fully integrated PC, eGecko² enables you to connect to your network LIMS system to allow live data transfer and validation of application labels. Running in the on-board optional verifi cation mode, eGecko² allows you to print and verify all labels to ensure no unreadable labels enter your workfl ow. More information online:

Track your Samples by their ID
Safe and distinct sample ID is key for successful results in the lab. The Eppendorf SafeCode system enables a safe sample vessel tracking at all stages of the lab workfl ow: from the bench to the long-term storage in the ULT freezer. SafeCode is based on a multi-level coding of the consumables based on prelabelled data matrix codes. The coding can be read by the Eppendorf RackScan instrument, any handheld data matrix scanner, or even your smartphone.
The reliable SafeCode cryostorage vial family is now expanded by a series of barcoded classic conical tubes: 5 mL, 15 mL, and 50 mL for daily routine usage at the bench. The well-known Eppendorf conical tubes with all their high-quality aspects are digitalised - on the tubes as well as for documentation purposes.
All SafeCode consumables can be tracked back by the Eppendorf dataport: specifi c support material like lot number, certifi cates, technical drawings, etc. are available online based on the consumable ID. Enhanced by these documentation fi les related to the specifi c vessel, the sample ID can automatically be transferred into the eLabNext software for sample location documentation as well as for process documentation. All support fi les of the vessel are automatically connected to this sample. Signs Your Organisation is Failing to Manage Analytical Data Effectively While there has been progress in analytical data management, its unique challenges continue to frustrate. How do you align with these statements?
You moved from paper to glass
The Covid-19 pandemic helped accelerate the adoption of technologies to manage and provide remote access to data. But if you went from paper spectra and chromatograms to images in electronic systems, that data is not digitalised. It is not searchable and usable for scientists and would need lots of preparation before it can be used in data science or machine learning systems.
Analytical data is managed in disparate systems Analytical data is often siloed. Even with centrally managed systems - ELNs, CDSs, and LIMS - different pieces of data is scattered across them. Chromatographic and
spectral results are abstracted to text a in LIMS (retention time, peak area, peak lists, m/z values etc.). Results of decisions are stored in the ELN (the expected product was synthesised) but not the proof - the interpreted spectrum with annotations. Data may be searchable in the CDS but it cannot be reviewed or reinterrogated.
Data management is the responsibility of scientists
If routine analytical workfl ows are not automated you still have work to do. Data should be deposited in a central, searchable, and accessible location without burdening scientists.
Data is not normalised
With multiple techniques and numerous vendor formats, heterogeneity is a problem with analytical data. There is no single adopted standard for organisations to normalise their data on, but that doesn’t mean it cannot be harmonised.
