The latest Business updates from the science industry

by Heather Hobbs First Anniversary Celebrates Italian Market Milestone

PEAK Scientifi c, a leading manufacturer of analytical gas generators, has proudly celebrated the fi rst anniversary of its offi ce in Milan, which provides direct customer service for its growing Italian market whilst further strengthening the company’s presence in Europe. Following a successful fi rst year of direct operations, the company is looking forward to expanding its business further in Italy and increasing support for the region in years to come.

With increased demand for alternatives to bulk-supplied gases for labs such as helium and nitrogen due to supply shortages and rising prices, the company’s range of hydrogen, nitrogen and zero air gas generators can provide gas on-demand for laboratory applications allowing labs to replace their bulk gas supply with a more sustainable and safer option to gas cylinders or liquid dewars.

“Looking at the high demand that we have been receiving from the Italian market for the past few years as well as our overall growth

in Europe, the opening of the Milan offi ce just made strategic sense to provide excellent customer support and more effi cient service,” said Italian Territory Manager Luigi Innocenti.

Attributing to its successful fi rst year has been the company’s customer focus, delivering on-site technical support within 72 hours worldwide through directly employed fi eld service engineers. With new laboratory instruments entering the market, the company has continued to update its solutions for all major laboratory instrument manufacturers, primarily for new GC and LC- MS innovations.

Based in Scotland, PEAK Scientifi c now has over 20 global offi ces covering 6 continents with direct support and service. In the last decade it has established itself as one of the leading suppliers of gas generators in Europe, increasing its intake of engineers and sales personnel, while steadily expanding its footprint all over the continent.

Healthy Orderbooks and Strategic Expansion Herald Bright Future for UK Manufacturer

Steve Smith has been appointed as the new Managing Director at Hi-Line Industries, a UK-based leader in the design, manufacture and installation of energy-effi cient compressed air purifi cation equipment. Replacing outgoing MD Mike Thurlow, who has retired, Smith is part of the company’s original team, having joined as Marketing Director in 2000 when the business began trading. Having purchased Thurlow’s 50% share of the business, he is now busy making plans to drive the business forward to even greater success.

Supporting this ambitious outlook has been Hi-Line’s positive year- end (31 July 2022) results which showed 27% growth in like-for-like

sales, underpinned by a record year for the company’s N2 nitrogen generator systems and HPSA desiccant dryers, both of which have features and functions that provide notable market differentiation, the company said.

Keeping pace with growing order levels is driving expansion at Hi-line’s Burton-upon-Trent headquarters and production facility. A new building extension is under design, but such is current demand that the company recently erected two temporary warehouse buildings simply to hold the

additional materials required for dryer builds. Several six-fi gure projects are underway for completion before year-end.

“This company has come a long when since it began in 2000, but we can achieve even more,” said Smith. “We have new teams in the

warehouse and service departments, which will help support our future growth in terms of both physical size and revenue. Despite our ambitions, however, the company’s founding principles will not change. Our experienced and qualifi ed engineers will continue designing and building to the highest standards. We have great confi dence in our high-quality workmanship and materials, which refl ects in our fi ve-year warranty. I’m very excited to spearhead our ongoing development in the coming years.”

ISO9001 certifi ed and a member of the British Compressed Air Society, Hi-Line also supports the ‘Made in Britain’ campaign, which highlights the passion around British-made brands and UK manufacturing. Hi-line’s broad range of energy-effi cient compressed air equipment includes air dryers, nitrogen and oxygen generators, fi ltration equipment, condensate management/drains and service kits.
