Spotlight Cooling & Freezing Technologies Pharmaceutical Freeze Drying Roadshow

SP Industries, Inc has announced the first dates for its 2010 Roadshow 'Freeze Drying of Pharmaceuticals: Principles and Practice'. Drawing upon speakers from the internationally acknowledged Freeze Drying Group at the University of Erlangen, Germany, SP Industries has organised a comprehensive 1-day programme of seminars and discussions. The talks have been designed to enable people involved with pharmaceutical freeze drying and lyophilisation, at all levels of experience, to gain considerable benefit. Seminar topics include: introduction to freeze drying: putting principles into practice; formulation: understanding the physical properties of materials; overcoming the challenge of formulating colloidal materials; freeze drying microscopy: introduction and relevance to process design and optimisation; a review of PAT tools for freeze drying; an introduction to MTM and SMART freeze dryer technology; and heat & mass transfer in freeze drying and scale-up: fundamental concepts.

For further information or to reserve a place at the free Roadshow seminars in Boston, MA (April 12th), New Brunswick, NJ (April 13th) or San Francisco, CA (April 15th), visit SP Industries website.

Fully Automatic Carrousel for Flame Sterilising Inoculation Loops

Continuous working during the flaming and the cooling phases of the inoculation loops saves up to 70% of time and makes it possible to work efficiently. The stable housing enables comfortable and easy access to inoculation loops. Removal positions on both sides make the carrousel equally suitable for right and left handers. Suitable for up to four inoculation loops.

Keep all functions in view with the fully graphic display. Flaming and cooling time can be adjusted to the second. The carrousel rotates and controls flaming automatically. No unintentional use of hot inoculation loops: When flaming is completed, the display shows the remaining cooling time and the removal positions of cool inoculation loops. Additionally, an intelligent sensor of the Autoloop PRO monitors safe sterilisation. Fabricated entirely of stainless steel, anodized aluminium and a display, protected by heat resistant glass, the Autoloop PRO from WLD-TEC can withstand extreme laboratory conditions.

Circle no. 94 ADVERTORIAL Skadi® Green Line REAL GREEN MEANS:

• Definitely the lowest power consumption; - up to 30 % reduction in electricity costs; - emit less heat into your laboratory, minimizing air conditioning costs; - save 300 up to 1000 euro a year.

• Definitely the lowest sound level; - WhisperFreeze® technology;

• Definitely the most ecological refrigeration system; - natural refrigerants.

• Definitely CO2 reduction => minimizes carbon footprint. Calculation example:

[kWh / 24 h] x [kWh costs in Europe] x [365 days] Traditional DF8520:

[18 kWh / 24 h] x [€ 0.13 / kWh] x [365 days] = Green Line DF8520GL:

[12.24 kWh / 24 h] x [€ 0.13 / kWh] x [365 days] = Savings each year:

savings in electricity costs: savings on CO2 output:

savings on trees to grow: 854,10 euro 580,80 euro 273,30 euro

1.675,50 kg CO2 111 trees

Skadi Europe BV launches a revolutionary new portable -86ºC ultra low temperature freezer. This ULT Freezer requires only 12 Volts input and uses less than 150 Watts of power. In fact, this ULT freezer can be powered by a standard cigarette lighter accessory port available in modern automobiles. In case of power failure the unit remains - 86ºC on a standard UPS or battery.

The 25 litre freezer is cooled using Sterling technology. The Free Piston Stirling Cooler (FPSC) is a device which excludes the use of heavy and space consuming compressors. Gas bearings allow the only two moving parts of the system to ‘ride on a cushion of air’ keeping the running surfaces from making contact while the machine is operating. This results in a stable, low power and low noise freezer.

Skadi® Sterling Portable Freezers are available in two

temperature ranges: -45ºC and -86ºC. The units run on 115 V, 220V and 12 V. Learn more on www.skadi-europe.com.

Circle no. 97 Green Line -86ºC Freezers: Standard Supplied with Natural Refrigerants

uses 100% pure natural refrigerants. These hydrocarbon refrigeration systems are safety compliant according EN60335-2-24.

Skadi Europe BV is a pioneer in the market using standard only ecological refrigerants in their Ultra Low Temperature Freezers. Unlike the traditional used mixed, synthetic, potent greenhouse gases, Skadi®

The updated green refrigeration system heavily decreases the power consumption (30 %). In a purchase process it is recommended to compare the power consumption of the Skadi® green line with the traditional units in the market. This will lead to huge costs savings.

The TEWI calculation (Total Equivalent Warming Impact) is the true international standard to calculate CO2 emission. The Skadi®

Skadi® green

line with its low power consumption and ecological refrigerants will substantial minimize the carbon footprint.

green line ultra low temperature freezers are available in

two temperature ranges: -45ºC and -86ºC. The range offer both upright and chest type freezers. Internal volumes from 191 liter up to 730 liter. Learn more on www.skadi-europe.com.
