Automated Cell Counter Fits into the Palm of the Hand
The new Scepter™ Automated Handheld Cell Counter from Millipore miniaturises the technology found in much larger instruments into a portable device the size of an automated pipette. The instrument contains sophisticated electronics for cell sensing, signal processing, and data storage. A graphical display reports the cell count and average cell volume within 20 seconds.
Currently, cells are typically counted manually under a microscope using a hemocytometer. However, loading a hemocytometer is a tedious task and variability in user technique can impact the accuracy and precision of results.
In addition to showing cell counts and average cell volume, the instrument also displays a histogram of cell distribution by volume or diameter. The histogram can be used to provide an instant snap shot of the health of the culture. Results can be stored on the instrument or downloaded to a computer.

Innovative Point-of-Use Water Purification System The Milli-Q®
The guava easyCyte™ 8HT flow cytometry system is a compact, affordable, six-colour flow cytometry system with 96-well automation. Its small footprint and robust capabilities allow scientists to move their research out of the core lab into their own lab.
The guava easyCyte 8HT six-colour detection enables researchers to carry out highly multiplexed experiments in which six targets and eight parameters can be simultaneously analysed in a single sample of cells.
As with all Millipore flow cytometry systems, the easyCyte 8HT system utilises patented microcapillary technology that reduces the number of cells needed for analysis and the amount of waste generated – from litres per day with traditional approaches to less than 50 mL per day. Elimination of complicated fluidics gives the instrument a small footprint and dramatically decreases user maintenance.

Consistently High Quality Pure Water
Integral Water Purification System is a one-source solution that produces pressurised pure and ultrapure water directly from tap water. The system has a reduced “footprint” for easy bench integration or for convenient installation anywhere in the lab (including wall installation). Separate Points-of-Delivery (POD) dispensers deliver either ultrapure water (from the Q-POD®
unit), or pure water (from the E-POD™ unit) at adjustable flow rates ranging from drop-by-drop to 2 L/min.
The flexibility of the Milli-Q Integral system lets users adapt their water purification solution easily to keep pace with changing laboratory needs. A range of systems exists to provide users with 70 to 360 L/day of pure and/or ultrapure water. In addition, each system supports up to three POD units for water delivery exactly where it is needed. Pure water storage reservoirs are designed to accommodate volumes of 30 to 350 L.

Protein Detection System Decreases Immunodetection Time by 80%
Millipore’s SNAP i.d.™ protein detection system allows researchers to produce higher quality western blots 80% more quickly than with conventional immunodetection protocols.
By shortening the time required for blocking, washing, and antibody incubations to 22 minutes, the SNAP i.d. system allows researchers to optimise their immunodetection conditions for the highest quality results. The SNAP i.d. system is compatible with all membrane types and detection methods. Both sensitivity and specificity are equivalent or higher than standard immunodetection.
The SNAP i.d. system produces western blots of very high quality because its unique, vacuum-driven technology. Three different sizes of blot holders accommodate up to three blots each, and two blot holders can be run in parallel. Thus, researchers can process up to six blots in parallel and greatly increase their protein detection throughput.

New Stem Cell Catalogue
Millipore has issued a new, all-inclusive catalogue for stem cell research and specialty cell culture products .The 150 page catalogue features more than 700 tools covering every branch of stem cell research and specialty cell culture, including products for pluripotent, multipotent, human and rodent cell systems. Specialised serum-free, feeder-free culture media, stem cell culture reagents, unique stem cell lines, feeder cells, cultureware, characterisation kits, novel antibodies, and other accessories are available for a variety of research areas:
New products include ESGRO Complete™ PLUS medium for improved serum-free and feeder-free culture of mouse ES cells; new MilliTrace™ GFP Reporter stem cell lines; novel stem cell antibodies; and the EndoGRO line of cell culture systems for endothelial cells.
The Elix® Advantage from Millipore is a modular,
easily adaptable system that provides consistently high quality pure water from tap.
The system can be bench-integrated or wall-installed to fit the needs of today’s laboratories. The exceptional ergonomic design of the system’s water dispenser—the E-POD®
(Elix water point of delivery)
unit—allows convenient placement in the lab for efficient, pressurised pure water dispensing, when and where it is needed.
As many as three E-POD units per system can be connected for manual and volumetric dispensing at flow rates of up to 2 L/minute. All necessary information for daily use, such as water quality and system status, is visible on the unit’s graphic display. A range of point-of-use filters exists to adapt the E- POD units for use with specific applications.

Millipore’s new suite of multiplex assays use magnetic beads for more consistent results and automation compatibility. Designed for use with Luminex®
xMAP® technology, these new MILLIPLEX® MAG kits
complement Millipore’s broad selection of non-magnetic multiplex assays and enable researchers to choose the format they prefer.
MILLIPLEX MAG kits include microspheres embedded with superparamagnetic particles. Once bound to the protein of interest, the microspheres can be magnetically separated. This makes sample preparation easier and eliminates the risk of sample loss, clogs, or leaks. The new kits also reduce non-specific binding, which results in lower, more consistent coefficients of variation (CVs). To date, seven MILLIPLEX MAG kits have been released, including kits for cytokine and chemokine research and metabolic disease
research. A significant portion of the existing MILLIPLEX line will be available in both magnetic and non- magnetic formats by the end of 2010.
