Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc announced today a new quaternary pump that dramatically improves separation for complex mixtures, such as red wine, during ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography (U-HPLC) analysis. The new Thermo Scientific Accela 1250 pump features Force Feedback Control (FFC) which eliminates the need for pulse dampening while improving flow accuracy and gradient precision under extreme operating conditions.


The Accela 1250 pump is designed to operate at a top pressure of 1250 bar with flow rates of up to 2mL/min, reducing run times and improving productivity. This makes it the ideal choice for U- HPLC analysis and applications requiring flexibility between standard HPLC and U-HPLC capabilities. The improved pump also offers increased performance with significant baseline stabilisation and improved retention time reproducibility.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Debuts Next Generation Ion Trap and Orbitrap Mass Spectrometers: The LTQ Velos and the LTQ Orbitrap Velos


Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc today announced that the Thermo Scientific LTQ Velos and LTQ Orbitrap Velos will make their debut at PITTCON 2010.


The LTQ Velos™ features a new dual-pressure trap and advanced ion optics, making it the world’s fastest and most sensitive ion trap mass spectrometer. The unique dual-pressure trap technology features two discrete pressure regions that allow the decoupling of ion manipulation and detection. This enables the use of optimal pressures during analysis, increasing both scan speed and resolution.


The LTQ Orbitrap Velos™ combines the industry leading Orbitrap™ mass analyser, a new Higher-Energy Collisional Dissociation (HCD) cell and dual-pressure trap technology to routinely deliver ultra-high resolution and accurate-mass data. The speed of the LTQ Velos-based mass spectrometers is ideal for coupling to U-HPLC systems, enabling researchers to identify more compounds in less time.
