After four years of negotiations, searching and dreaming, Yorkville residents Jason and

Justine Brummel have finally reached their goal -- creating an indoor sports center for people of all abilities. Go For It Sports, 9231 Galena Rd., Yorkville opened its doors in December 2017. It was

inspired, Justine Brummel says, by the Brummel’s son, Kellen, who has special needs. But bringing the dream to a reality required overcoming some bumps along the way. Te Brummels, who own a farm west of Yorkville, had originally hoped to build a sports

dome on their property. Tey wanted to create a place, Justine says, where their son could be included in sports activities, where he would get to be a kid along with other children, like his brother and sister Brayden and Lexi. “It didn’t go well with the neightbors,” says Justine, who was born and raised in Yorkville. Tree years went by and then the Brummels were notified that the city was going to sell off property on its north side,

adjacent to a city park. Te Brummels put in a bid, and won. “Tis is by far a better location,” Justine admits. “We have a nice agreement with the property owner to the north; a

city park is there with soccer fields.” Te sport arena is not just a place for special needs kids, Justine stresses. It is becoming a place for teams to practice their soccer and other team sports skills. Tere is a weight room, basketball courts, and a running and walking track. Seniors are invited to play bocci ball or softball or basketball. It is a place for everyone. “We are teaching typical kids about inclusion and compassion,” Justine says. “It really touches my heart. Giving the special needs kids an opportunity that didn’t exist before is a dream come true.”
