Shaklee products. “It’s intense,” she says. “Open heart surgery can last as long as eight hours. You can get tired. I had
met a girl who had some serious hormonal problems and she said she was taking some vitamins that made a big difference. I didn’t believe her. But I tried them. And I knew I wasn’t getting so tired. I knew it was working for me.” Barbara, who was a nurse for 40 years, says she never intended to start a business, but when she mentioned to fellow nurses how her vitamins were helping her, she soon found herself selling Shaklee products. But before becoming a distributor, she says she did her research to make sure she was selling quality products. “When you work in surgery, people are always asking
you your opinion,” Barbara says. “So I figured if I was going to give people my qualified opinion on Shaklee, I wanted to be educated.” She says she investigated companies and checked on
how they did their science and research and what type of testing they did. She said she learned Shaklee does the most testing on materials and its quality standards are very high. “I learned the FDA has no qualifications on
vitamins, but it did send people to tour Shaklee and its representatives were blown away. Tey said Shaklee would be the prototype if standards were put in place.” She left nursing in 2013, and in 2002 her husband,
Dennis, left his corporate job to join her in her new career. Te business, she says, has taken off to now encompassing thousands of people from all over the country. “I love what I am doing,” Barbara says. “It’s given us
flexibility. We can do this anywhere, for as long as we want to.”
