Stephen Alan Salon - 2017 Chamber New Business of the Year 224-242-2456

www.stephenallensalon.com Te Stephen Alan Salon, 520 E. Kendall Dr.,Unit D, opened its doors

in Yorkville in 2017, moving from a previous location in Sycamore because owner Heather Allen says she knew Yorkville was where she wanted to be. “Tis town is growing so fast,” she says. “I knew I could grow with it!” Te salon, which employs seven people, provides all types of hair

services, Heather says, including coloring and cutting. In addition, they do waxing, extensions and air-brush tanning. She also has the Lather Lounge where clients get a 10-minute shampoo, which they experience with dim lighting and music. Heather says she got her training at the John Paul Mitchell system,

where she spent six years. “I signed up for beauaty school when I was 14 and a sophomore. Te

John Paul Mitchell system was pretty hard,” she says. “I was an educator for them. I traveled and worked with celebrity stylists. I always had a passion for entrepreneurship. Both my parents had their own businesses.” At its annual dinner in February 2018, the Yorkville Area Chamber of

Commerce named the salon New Business of the Year for 2017. Heather says it was a huge honor and a surprise for them, even though she admits she likes to be involved in the community and with Chamber events. “I believe in Karma,” she says. “I believe we should always be giving

back. We have a budget and we put money aside to make sure we can be doing something for the community.” Some of her favorite activities focus on animals and children. She

has volunteered for Feed my Starving Children and has sponsored Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) events, and in Sycamore she used to recycle old towels to a local animal shelter and plans to begin doing that in Yorkville. “Te stronger your community, the stronger your business,” Heather says. “I love the Yorkville community. Tis is the most warmest town, and the Chamber is giving us direction on how to grow. We get feedback from our guests. It’s wonderful!”

Little Rock Jewelers

630-552-7254 Master goldsmith Dave Snelling of Little Rock Jewelers,

115 E. South St., Plano, says he can fix everything “except your broken heart and the crack of dawn.” Dave bought the jewelry store, which has been in business for more than 30 years, two years ago. He and his fellow goldsmith Roben Woodward excel at custom designs, but also do repairs. “I especially like working on sentimental pieces, like

refurbishing family heirlooms,” Roben says. “I like being able to talk with our customers and be creative and come up with great designs for people.
