EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACT IVI T I ES 2017 - 2018 Running Club

Running Club provides opportunities for any girl who enjoys running a variety of distances using different terrains. Any experience and ability is welcome to take part in these sessions. Running club will be primarily outdoors, but at times will take place in the fitness room or gym to focus on technique and different types of training sessions.

The aim is to build or extend fitness but most of the time they are about provide personal challenge.

Swimming

Girls are encouraged to attend swimming training sessions before and after School if they would like to swim to improve their fitness or technique. Girls who would like to be considered for our Swimming Squad must attend at least two sessions a week to enable them to be selected. These are open sessions for swimmers of all abilities. They are structured so as to enable squad swimmers to work on their speed, starts, turns and other competitive elements of their stroke and other swimmers to learn to improve their strokes or their fitness. Mayfield has a highly competitive Swimming Squad with teams competing in Junior, Inter and Senior School galas.

Experience:Must be able to swim two recognisable strokes and a minimum of 100m unaided. Squad swimmers are expected to swim three to four recognised strokes in order to be considered for the team.

Beginners’ Swimming Lessons

These lessons are for girls who need to improve their basic technique and perhaps improve their water confidence. They enable girls to work on all four strokes and water skills. The lessons are perfect for girls who have not swum regularly for some time and who may be daunted by swimming with their peers. These run on a Thursday during activity 1.

Experience: From no experience at all, up to those who cannot swim 50m unaided (including those who are unable to swim with their face in the water).
