EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACT IVI T I ES 2017 - 2018

Extra-Curricular Activities

There is no question that the benefits of a broad and balanced education are immeasurable. For many girls at Mayfield, extra- curricular activities provide opportunities to explore areas of interest that they may not otherwise find in their more formal courses of study. These provide girls with opportunities to discover and develop, and to create positive connections, as well as integrate with a wider spectrum of the School’s community.

This booklet is designed to give pupils and parents a clear understanding of the extra-curricular opportunities that are available during the 2017/18 academic year.

Signing up for extra-curricular activities T

his booklet provides general information about the activities on offer so that the girls can start to consider which activities

they would like to join. To help pupils further, on the afternoon of the first day of term, we will be holding an Activities Fair, which provides an opportunity for girls to meet the staff who are running the activities, those who have previously been involved in the activities, and to find out more. Girls will then sign up for their chosen activities on-line via the new web-based SOCS module. Tutors will assist girls with this process and Housemistresses will also be able to advise boarders and their parents.

For activities that incur a cost, permission will be sought from parents for this to be billed to their School account.

Commitment

Commitment is an important part of our extra-curricular programme. Once girls have signed up to an activity it is expected that they will continue with it for a full term. Each term activities may be reviewed and adjusted.

When an activity incurs a cost, a full term’s notice must be given if a girl is planning to give it up. (In the Autumn Term, when girls might be trying out a new activity, this notice period may be reduced to half a term, except where the activity is run by an outside coach).
