EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACT IVI T I ES 2017 - 2018 Aerobics Club


This club is an exercise class that incorporates a range of exercise to music styles, taking influence from body attack, body combat, aerobics, body balance and legs, bums & tums. It is a fun and alternative way to keep active as well as improve fitness.


Cricket (Summer Term)


Building on fitness, skills and game-play covered in curriculum cricket lessons, extra- curricular cricket offers additional training for ALL girls within, or wishing to be considered for, School cricket teams or just wanting to gain practice and further experience in the sport. These sessions give girls the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of tactics and skills. Each team will train at least twice a week: once at lunchtime and once after School.


Matches: mid-week (after School), Wednesday afternoons for Years 7 & 8 and Saturday matches for ALL Year groups.


Fencing


Fencing is a Summer Olympic sport, both as individual and team events. Epee fencing (used in these classes) is one of the five disciplines of Modern Pentathlon. It is a sport that not only provides training physically, but also mentally as it requires strong concentration and substantial body co-ordination. Likened to physical chess (speeded up a thousand times), fencing develops speed, reactions, body awareness, balance and is one of the best forms of attack and defence. Classes are run by a professional fencing coach. Fencing takes place after School on Thursdays. Classes comprise a warm up, stretches, reaction games, footwork (fencing foot movements) technique and bouting (fencing/fighting).


Fitness Room


A variety of lunchtime and after School sessions are provided. There will be specific sessions to assist girls who need to build up their base fitness; sessions for maintaining a healthy lifestyle; as well as sessions where girls who are required to maintain a good standard of fitness (eg. Sports Scholars). A personal exercise program will be set up on an individual basis according to level of fitness, sport and experience of using the Fitness Room. This will be reviewed on a termly basis.
