EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACT IVI T I ES 2017 - 2018 DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD SCHEME


The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is a challenging programme of activities enabling participants to learn new skills, help others and experience adventure. Participation brings many benefits, such as developing self-confidence, independence, a sense of responsibility, an awareness of potential, an understanding of personal strengths and weaknesses and learning to work as part of a team.


Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award


This is an exciting and fun activity for Years 9 & 10 pupils. (Girls must be 14 years old to complete the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award).


Enrolment will take place in September 2017 and the Award will be carried out during the academic year with a final assessed expedition in June 2018. Participants will be required to carry out an activity for the physical, skill and service sections once a week for between three or six months. In addition to this there will be an activity slot session run on a weekly basis.


Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award


The Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a rewarding and fun experience. It is a chance for young people to try out new things and to meet new people. In particular, the Award encourages a spirit of independence and self-reliance.


In preparation for the Silver Award, participants have to complete activities within four sections: Physical, Service, Skill, and Expedition. The Expedition section requires weekly training sessions, a practice expedition and an assessed expedition. Attendance is required at all training sessions as well as the practice expedition to be eligible to attend the assessed expedition.
