EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACT IVI T I ES 2017 - 2018 Inter-House Drama
Working within their four Competitive House Groups and to specific criteria, pupils will be required to put together a 20-minute piece of Drama to be staged in the Concert Hall on the last afternoon of the Autumn Term. A panel will judge which House is the winner!
LAMDA
Pupils work towards LAMDA Communication and Performance qualifications in one or more of the following areas, depending on the skills they wish to develop:
• Acting - examinations are designed to develop the skills required to communicate dramatic text to an audience.
• Speaking in Public - examinations enable pupils to develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication and public presentation.
• Speaking of Verse and Prose - examinations encourage pupils to explore literature in an engaging and practical way, and develop their communication skills.
• Reading for Performance - examinations are designed to develop the skills necessary for reading aloud to an audience and devising a recital for performance.
Pupils who take Speech and Drama lessons gain the ability to communicate effectively and clearly and to develop their confidence. Lessons are 30 minutes, once a week and LAMDA exams are taken once or twice each year and carry UCAS points.
All extra-curricular LAMDA lessons will be charged in advance per term. The price is based on the pupil having 30 half-hour lessons in the academic year; we will charge for 10 lessons per term. Please note: this does not necessarily mean that the pupil will have 10 lessons per term, as each term varies in length. Occasionally, a pupil may require more than 30 lessons in a year.
At the end of each term we will reconcile the number of lessons and will apply a credit or an additional charge as required. Please contact the Drama Department or LAMDA teacher if you are unwilling to pay for more than 30 lessons.
