Europe ranks No. 1 forwellness


tourismtrips The GlobalWellnessTourismCongress (GWTC) has released new findings on the European wellness tourismmarket.The research fromits GlobalWellnessTourism Economy report, the first study to focus on the size and analyse this fast-growing travel category, revealed that Europe is a wellness travel powerhouse – ranking first globally for annual trips taken (203million) and second for expenditures (€115.3billion).


Six of the top ten nations for wellness tourismexpenditures are in Europe ranking in order as Germany, France,Austria, UK, Italy and Switzerland. In addition, this well- established travelmarket is set to experience a 7.3%annual growth rate through 2017, with developing nations like Russia,Turkey and Poland clocking the fastest growth.


“Europeans are themost sophisticated, experienced wellness- and prevention- focused focused travellers on the planet,” commented Susie Ellis, Chairman and CEO of the GWTC. “And with somany European tourismboards – fromAustria to Slovenia – now smartly promoting their unique offerings, the region will only continue to attract more health-minded travellers fromall over the world.”
