Although robot wrists with corrosion-resistant materi- als to protection class IP65 are still in use, the IP67 protection rating is increasingly establishing itself as the standard in metalcasting facilities. Consequently, KUKA will be converting all KR QUANTEC series metalcasting robots to IP67. In harsh environments, robotic electronics in the robot must be protected against dust and dirt. Positive atmospheric pressure in the housing has proven particular effective. Protecting the robot with special paints and double-sealed gear units also increases its service life. Additionally, robots in floor, ceiling and shelf-mounted variants increase flexibility just as much as specialized linear units and offer a wide range of payloads up to 2,866 lbs. (1,300 kilograms). Depending on demands and use, a highly diverse spectrum of applications can be met by robots in metalcasting facilities. ■
