MORE MONEY FOR GREIF US-headquartered Greif has posted a second-quarter net income of $31.4m, up from $20.8m this time last year, despite seeing its net sales fall over the period from $915.9m to $839.6m. “We are pleased to report another improved quarter at Greif,” says president and CEO Pete Watson. “Our margins expanded compared to the previous year as we continue to implement fundamental operating improvements across the portfolio. Performance was particularly strong in our Rigid Industrial Packaging & Services business, which helped to offset challenging market conditions impacting our Paper Packaging & Services business. I am confident that Greif is headed in the right direction and we remain focused on creating value for both our customers and shareholders.” Although its net sales dropped from $666.6m 12 months ago to $589.6m, the company’s Rigid

FLEXICON STAYS BUSY US-headquartered Flexicon has developed a new Bulk-Out® flexible intermediate bulk container (FIBC) weigh batch unloading system. Fitted with a manual dumping station, the system also boasts a flexible screw conveyor that automatically conveys weighed batches of contamination-sensitive materials to downstream processes. “Te BFC model discharger frame is equipped with a cantilevered I-beam with electric hoist and trolley for positioning of bulk bags without the use of a forklift,” the company says. “A Spout-Lock® clamp ring

unveiled a new FIBC lifting frame with telescopic arms that can accommodate big bags in an increasing range of sizes. “Te lifting frame is optional on all BFC models of Flexicon’s Bulk-Out® discharger line and available for up to 2-tonne capacities to replace conventional lifting frames of any make or model of discharger that employs a hoist to position and suspend bulk bags,” the company says. “Te telescoping arms can be adjusted using clevis pins and safety clips to a range of settings to accommodate bulk bags from 81 to 119 cm square at the upper sew seam. Tis adjustability also allows the lifting frame to work safely with rectangular bags.” Te company, which, in addition to its

domestic operations, maintains locations in the UK, Spain, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Chile and Singapore, has also launched a new manual FIBC dumping station with an integral Flexi-Disc® tubular cable conveyor that collects dust and “gently conveys the material at any angle” over short or long distances. “Te unit features a high velocity vacuum fan that draws airborne dust from the operator’s atmosphere onto cartridge filters,” Flexicon explains. “Automatic reverse-pulse filter cleaning allows continuous, efficient operation; timer activated solenoid valves release short blasts of compressed plant air inside the filters causing dust build-up on outer filter surfaces to fall into the hopper.” At the same time, “filters are readily accessed by removing the interior baffle” and can be replaced using quick- disconnect fittings. www.flexicon.com
