VTG BUILDS TANK FLEET VTG has invested some €18m in some 1,300 new tank containers since May, the company reports. It bought 1,000 standard units from Singamas and has also taken delivery of a number of specials from South Africa and Belgium. “With this newbuild programme we’re
reacting to the current market situation and simultaneously prepare for the future,” explains Heike Clausen, managing director of VTG Tanktainer GmbH. Te Singamas units are expected to be
deployed primarily on transport operations within Asia, where there is strong demand.

TRITON/TAL MERGER COMPLETES Triton Container International and TAL International Group finalised their planned merger this past 12 July. Te new company, Triton International Ltd (TIL), now claims to be the world’s largest lessor of intermodal freight containers, with nearly 5m TEU and an estimated global market share of 25 per cent. TAL also contributes some 10,500 tank containers to the combined fleet. Brian Sondey, chairman and CEO of

QUAKER RENEWS WITH DEN HARTOGH Quaker Chemical and Den Hartogh Liquid Logistics have signed a three-year contract extension covering bulk liquid transport in and out of Quaker’s facility in Uithoorn, the Netherlands. “Tis prolonged contract formalises the
confidence we have in the services provided by Den Hartogh,” says Quaker’s global operations director, Henk Struiwigh. “Both the Den Hartogh team on-site, as well as the drivers making the deliveries to our customers live up to the expectations we have of a lead logistics service provider.” Pieter den Hartogh, managing director of Den Hartogh Logistics, adds: “We are proud with this third term, especially as it is built on a strong mutual ambition towards continued improvements in the areas of safety and sustainability. POTTER BACK ON TRACK UK-based Potter Logistics’ Knowsley
distribution centre has begun a new twice- daily train service that will initially move freight from Knowsley Industrial Park to the north-east after work by Network Rail has reconnected the site after a ten-year gap. “We are delighted that the Knowsley
train terminal connection has reopened, which allows Potter Logistics to further extend its rail activities,” says managing director Matthew Lamb. “Freight trains into Knowsley represent a significant milestone for the terminal and opens up the adjacent terminal land for rail freight usage.”
