ACRYLONITRILE • AZELIS HAS INKED A GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT WITH ANQORE AND HAS ALSO ANNOUNCED A NUMBER OF KEY MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS
AZELIS HAS BEEN appointed global distributor of AnQore’s drummed acrylonitrile. Produced at AnQore’s Chemelot Industrial Park site in Sittard-Geleen, the Netherlands, acrylonitrile is “an essential building block used on a large scale” for the production of durable materials, high-performance materials and functional materials. The product is also used on a smaller scale by customers involved in the manufacturing of resins, fine chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates. “Our mission is to ensure that in our
industry people can make use of the unique characteristics of acrylonitrile in the most safe and secure way possible,” says AnQore CEO Pieter Boon. “Azelis has a systematic approach to facilitate safe logistics and safe use of acrylonitrile in drums. Azelis also has a local presence in main markets across the globe, which enables more direct interaction with customers for acrylonitrile in drums. We are convinced that Azelis is the best partner to continue our acrylonitrile in drums business.” “Azelis has significant supply chain expertise

ORGANISATIONAL CHANGES In other news, Azelis has announced a number of strategic organisational changes designed “to position the group for further success”, with Thijs Bakker joining the company as its new CFO. Taking over from Martin Hollenhorst, who retired in August, Bakker, the company says, brings with him “a wealth of experience in the finance and the chemical industry”, having worked for more than 15 years at AkzoNobel in variety of financial roles in the Netherlands, the US and Asia-Pacific, most recently serving as finance director, marine and protective coatings in Singapore.
“Asia represents a significant growth opportunity for Azelis,” the company states. “Following our rapid growth trajectory in China and Japan, we are strengthening our team in the region in order to further exploit the potential and accelerate our development, serving better our partners. As such, Laurent Nataf, currently chief operating officer [COO], is appointed CEO and president, Asia Pacific.” At the same time, Anna Bertona, currently
chief strategy and principal officer, will assume the role of COO EMEA “to steer our market teams in the region and with a particular focus on Azelis principal development activities”. Combined, these new appointments, the company says, “will support Azelis as it looks to create value and expand further upon its leading position in speciality chemicals and innovative ingredients”. Azelis has also appointed Michael
Roney to its Board of Directors. Roney was previously CFO at Bunzl, a London-listed international distribution and outsourcing group with operations across 29 countries on four continents. “This is a significant development for Azelis; we will benefit from Michael’s expertise and proven track record in distribution,” says Azelis CEO Dr Hans-Joachim Müller. “As we look to grow and develop Azelis, we will draw upon his extensive experience of expanding into new markets. We welcome Michael to the Board and believe this appointment will position Azelis better for growth.” HCB
