NEW HAMBURG PLANT The launch of the new Recobulk brand name comes shortly after Schütz announced that it has started construction of a new IBC production and reconditioning plant in Hamburg. Slated to come on stream during the second quarter of next year, “this investment in new, ultra-modern production equipment and additional capacities” is, the company says, “an indication of [its] commitment to the German economy and [its] customers”. “Equipped with state-of-the-art production
technology, the new Schütz plant is currently being built on a site in the Billbrook industrial area in eastern Hamburg, which is distinguished by its central location and optimal infrastructure with quick access to the A1 motorway as well as to rail transport,” Schütz reveals. “The latest technical knowledge was incorporated in the planning of the new Schütz facilities in order to guarantee a high degree of automation in the future, resulting in optimal efficiency and maximum safety in production.” “The new state-of-the-art subsidiary
enables us to further develop flexibility of our products and services in one of Europe’s most important business centres. This facility also enables us to strengthen our proximity to customers in the north,” the company continues, noting that once up and running the plant will enable it to supply the entire north of Germany and parts of Denmark. “By opening the new facility in Hamburg,
our customers in the region will benefit on a manifold scale: short paths stand for faster deliveries combined with a significantly higher degree of flexibility and therefore outstanding reliability of delivery. Add to this the significant shortening of distances for IBC returns within the framework of the Schütz Ticket Service. Consistent development of the Schütz network offers our customers ecological advantages as well as logistical ones,” it says.

HOUSTON AND MOERDIJK But it’s not just in its native Germany where Schütz has been busy on the building front, with the company also reporting that its new steel drum plant in Houston, Texas has now begun production. “The new production facility for steel drums allows Schütz Container Systems to meet the rising demand for steel drums in the region,” the company says. “The state-of-the-art steel drum production line gives us the highest flexibility, efficiency and quality, all of which benefit our customers. As one of the biggest ports in the US, Houston offers excellent logistics connections to the road and rail network – making it the ideal location for the dependable supply of packaging to this important industrial region and an ideal starting point for our customers’ global exports.” Schütz has also expanded its Moerdijk
facility in the Netherlands with the addition of a 7,500-m2
storage site for new swap bodies. “Schütz Benelux is located very conveniently
between the region’s two major cities, which are also Europe’s biggest harbours: Rotterdam and Antwerp. From here, we supply the Benelux countries with the entire range of Schütz products – from drums to IBCs,” the company says. “Linking up this site allows us to increase
the logistics and production capacity of the entire facility. The priority of the project was to optimise the integration of the swap bodies/ trailers into production and to further increase working safety. The wide parking positions mean that the 50 trailers or 100 swap bodies have more room to manoeuvre. Additionally, loaded and empty swap bodies are kept in separate areas of the new site. This makes the trucks much faster and more efficient,” it states, adding that “the convincing logistical advantages of the new site have led to plans to widen the existing parking positions over the course of the year and integrate them [into] the new transport system”.
