DEALS • MAUSER HAS EXPANDED ITS FOOTPRINT IN THE UK WITH THE ACQUISITION OF DANIELS HEALTHCARE AND THE OPENING OF A NEW RECONDITIONING JOINT VENTURE
GERMANY-BASED MAUSER has acquired the UK’s Daniels Healthcare Group. From its headquarters in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, Daniels manufactures and markets medical waste containers, including its UN-approved Sharpsguard®
range of units, for hospitals,
surgeries, needle exchange schemes, councils and the clinical waste industry. The acquisition, Mauser says, further demonstrates its “commitment to invest in medical waste container capabilities in Europe to provide a broader geographic footprint and to better serve [customers] as the preferred choice for medical waste containers and sharps containers”. “As one of the European market leaders with our Mauser Wiva®
medical waste container
system we are more than delighted to offer now the well-established sharps container brand Sharpsguard to our customers,” says Dr Jürgen Scherer, head of Mauser SBU Europe. Echoing these sentiments, Dr Urs Geisel, SBU Europe’s head of sales, states: “We are excited to add Daniel Healthcare’s highly experienced team, products and services to our company.”
LONGSTANDING PARTNERS “Daniels and Mauser, with their Wiva brand of clinical waste containers, have been partners for over 20 years, delivering industry leading value to our customers,” says Howard Simler, who will now retire from his post as Daniels’ managing director. “I am proud that the success my team has built up over the last 24 years will continue. With the considerable

support of Mauser, with their global scale and world class development, Daniels remains committed to maintaining the very highest safety and delivering the excellent customer service and value that [customers and partners] have come to expect.” “I am pleased to announce that Eric Lanyon, who has been my fellow director for the last 13 years, will continue with the company and lead the Daniels team through this exciting phase,” he reports. “My fellow owner, Maurice Hatton, and I will continue to be available in a consultancy role to support Eric and his team as required.” Available with filling capacities ranging from
30 litres to 60 litres, Mauser’s Wiva product line can be supplied with solid or click lids as needed and complements a packaging portfolio that ranges from small pails and jerrycans to composite intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and variously sized steel, plastics and fibre drums.
NOT JUST CLEANING In addition to the production of factory-new units, Mauser also offers comprehensive reconditioning services through its National Container Group (NCG) subsidiary, the UK arm of which has now formed a new joint venture with Manchester Drums Limited (MDL). Trading under the NCG – MDL UK banner, the joint venture will operate from a new site in Manchester under the helm of managing director Jenny Minnock, who will be supported by a sales team headed by commercial manager Mark Minnock and sales manager Peter Chambers. As well as offering IBC washing, re-bottling and laundering services, NCG – MDL UK will also undertake HDPE recycling and empty IBC collection services across the UK and Ireland. “NCG – MDL UK Ltd will profit from the enhanced experience that the third- generation management team of Manchester Drums has gathered in the reconditioning of industrial packaging over the years. We are thrilled to partner with [MDL founder] Gary Cornforth and Jenny Minnock on this venture,” says NCG EMEA head Ernest van den Boogerd. “We are committed to continue further expanding our presence in the UK and Ireland. By this joint venture we will be able to serve our customers in this region even better.” HCB
