TANKS FOR HIRE

TANKER RENTAL • GROWTH IN THE UK RENTAL MARKET WAS CONFIRMED BY A NUMBER OF EXHIBITORS AT THIS YEAR’S FPS SHOW IN LIVERPOOL

IN ADDITION TO the numerous road tanker manufacturers taking up stands at this year’s FPS Expo at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool (HCB Monthly July/August 2016, page 28), there were also a fair few exhibitors keen to acquaint visitors with their various tanker rental services. For example, TIP Tanker Services, a specialist division of TIP Trailer Services, made the most of its first appearance at the show to unveil its new range of fuel tanker products and services. “TIP has always rented fuel tankers but this has typically been at the request of specific customers and it hasn’t been something we have actively promoted,” explains TIP Tankers

TIP TANKERS IS ONE OF A NUMBER OF PROVIDERS EXPANDING TANKER RENTAL SERVICES IN THE UK

UK’s general manager Mark Crossland. “However, from 2016 this will change and we will have a large variety of fuel tankers available for both spot hire and contract leasing.”

MASSIVE GROWTH Another company making its debut at the show was Bedfordshire-based Compton Tankers, which, having been selling units outright since the 1960s, also operates a rental division under the Tanker Rent UK banner. Over the past few years, the company says, this particular business activity has “grown massively” as customers increasingly look to free up capital while simultaneously enjoying the greater flexibility renting offers them in terms of meeting fluctuations in demand. With a fleet of rigid tankers, semi-trailers

and tractor units available for both short- and long-term hire, the company is able to serve

the needs of a diverse customer base, including the fuels, aviation, bitumen, gas and powder sectors. What’s more, with its rental business “going from strength to strength”, Compton reports that it is currently expanding its offering to the chemicals sector in response to growing customer requests for such units.

CONTINUED INVESTMENT Also reporting healthy growth was TCL Tanker Rental. Offering both long- and short-term rental as well as rent-back and spot hire options, the Leeds-based company has been adding around 20 new tankers to its books for each of the past five years. With a similar number of investments expected over the course of 2016, the company reveals that its fleet of units will thus be “touching 300 by the end of the year”. Furthermore, TCL has now been appointed as the sole UK service partner for Denmark’s VM Tarm, which it describes as “the largest and leading Nordic manufacturer of stainless steel and aluminium tankers”. “We’re proud that VM Tarm chose to appoint TCL as their sole UK service partner,” says TCL director Michael Smith. “Our developing relationship has been made easier because both companies share a common commitment to providing quality products and service and we look forward to working more closely together.” Providing “road tanker logistics to the fuels and speciality oils sector through long-term partnerships with some of the largest global fuel manufacturers”, Cheshire-headquartered Suttons, meanwhile, maintains a UK network of more than 40 depots. This, the company says, makes it “well placed to support customers and [gives it] the flexibility to respond quickly to seasonal demands and campaigns by supplementing core resource with [a] pool of over 700 cross-skilled and ADR-qualified drivers”. Safety, Suttons continues, “is at the heart of everything we do and we are committed to ensuring that our progressive approach to safety management, compliance, monitoring and reporting guarantees our customers’ products from collection to delivery”.
