Disaster Control Center All disaster emergency actions will be coordinated at the emergency operations center, which will normally be located in the vicinity of the nurse’s station. If this area is affected by the disaster, the secondary location will be announced at the scene.
Disaster Control Committee
The following personnel constitute the disaster control committee within the facility. In the event of notification or an awareness of an actual or impending disaster affecting this facility, they are to report immediately to the disaster control center unless their services are required to provide on-the-scene assistance in their area of responsibility: • administrator • DON • assistant DON • business manager • maintenance supervisor • foodservice supervisor • environmental services supervisor • activity coordinator
All other personnel will remain in their normal working area, provide assistance where necessary, and await instructions from their immediate supervisor.
Duties of Disaster Control Committee Personnel
Administrator • Verifies nature and extent of disaster. • Assumes control of all emergency actions within the facility. • Assigns tasks to committee members. • Augments departmental staff with any available personnel. • Directs and initiates recall of off-duty personnel. • Authorizes issuance of emergency supplies and equipment as needed. • Orders evacuation of the facility, if necessary. • Releases public information to the news media and the public, or delegates this task.
Director of nursing and assistant director of nursing • In the absence of the administrator, assumes control of duties listed above. • Assigns nursing staff appropriately for best utilization. • Directs recall of nursing unit personnel as required. • Supervises relocation of residents. • Advises administrator of control of beds.
Business manager • Assists administrator in all areas needed. • Supervises admission of residents. • Assists in admission of residents. • Ensures routine admitting and office procedures are followed, as much as possible. • Keeps administrator informed.
