G3 Interview INTERBLOCK

A finger on the gaming pulse

Interblock was almost unrecogniseable at G2E 2015, presenting its extraordinary Pulse with more stage presence, music, technology and entertainment than an Imogen Heap concert. G3 interviewed Global CEO, John Connelly about the major changes that have taken place over the last six months at Interblock.

The name above the booth was the same, but everything else about the Interblock stand at G2E Las Vegas was different. A tour began with the Occulus Rift, whereby visitors slipped on the VR headset and were treated to an all-encompassing 3D flyby exploring the casino of the future as described by Interblock. It was - simply - amazing.

The Slovenia-based company is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, but it’s in the last six months that Interblock has gone through the most profound change in its history. From the appointment of International CEO, John Connelly, at the ICE show in London to the launch of the stunning Pulse Arena at G2E Vegas, Interblock is an altogether different force in the gaming industry. Speaking to Mr. Connelly at the Sands Expo, he detailed the path the company has set itself upon and the journey it’s taking with its customers.

“Joining the company in January, the first task was to address the infrastructure of the business, identify the KPIs by division and product life-cycle, evaluate budgetary requirements and solidify the global executive management team,” states Mr. Connelly of a programme that is already ahead of schedule. “The talent in this organisation is astounding, combined with decades of experience in multiplayer gaming; my job was to build upon that foundation, recruiting industry veterans from major gaming companies around the world to strengthen that mix.”

Mr. Connelly admits that Interblock has been fortunate in attracting the highest calibre of talent to the company, interested in working for a smaller private-enterprise within which change can be affected much faster and with greater impact. The significant level of consolidation taking place in the business at present has also helped Interblock attract a top-class roster of executive heavy-hitters.

One of the employment statistics is especially interesting, wherein Interblock has multiplied the number of engineers it employs by a factor of five. “Our product portfolio has never been stronger,” underlines Mr. Connelly. “The combination of growth opportunities in new markets combined with new products on display here in Vegas, means this is a very exciting time for Interblock. We have the momentum to achieve our goals, we are dynamic and nimble and have the expertise in the ETG market to channel that innovation and monetise it through traditional tools and metrics.”

The Interblock team now stresses the importance of ensuring the infrastructure around product creation and delivery is as important as the sale itself. The entire product life-cycle now goes through a thorough beta- testing process and where products enter a market, Interblock is able to optimise its knowledge and expertise and tie innovation to strategic global initiatives. “We conduct upfront market research and undertake component GAP analysis to ensure that we maximise
