Thinking outside the new ‘M-Box’

Now in its sixth year, the Gauselmann Industry Summit plays an important role in keeping operators informed of regulatory changes and presents the ideal opportunity for the Group to showcase its latest gaming portfolio

The Gauselmann ‘Industry Summit’ is an annual event that takes place in autumn, just before the company starts its sales campaign with its subsidiaries around the country. The latest summit took place in Frankfurt at the start of September. It is a combination of product display, panel discussions and presentations / informa- tion on key issues in the industry. Over 1,000 Gauselmann customers attended the event.

The Gauselmann Group took the opportunity to intro- duce its latest cabinet to the German AWP market – the M-BOX. This cabinet is already known in the interna- tional gaming market as AVANTGARDE SLT or AURO- RA. It consists of two HD 27” monitors with a button panel. A coin elevator and banknote recycler are built in such a way that coins and notes can be entered and dis- pensed at the same level – a coin tray at the bottom of the cabinet is now a thing of the past.

Visitors to the Industry Summit were given a chance to get to know the M-BOX – via Virtual Reality. Upon placing the 3D glasses on, one could delve into a 360 degree world in 3D where the M-BOX was introduced alongside several new games. The focus was on nature and sustainability as Gauselmann stated that the M- BOX requires only half the amount of electricity com- pared with conventional gaming machines.

A further product highlight was the Merkur Roulette that makes use of a real classic wheel for the German

arcade market. The sports betting solutions were also on display, such as the Merkur BetBook.

The latest games packages were introduced, including the Merkur Magie 2016 HD De Luxe and the Merkur Magie 2016 HD. Further Gauselmann subsidiaries exhibited at the Summit, including GeWeTe (showing the new Duplex Safe change machine).

An innovative way to solve entry-control restrictions- for arcades is called Face Check. Here the player’s face is scanned upon entry and compared with a data bank. A member of staff is informed when there is a match (or possible match) with a player who is banned. This method is reactive and so players are only approached

if they need to be. As the vast majority of players have no problems with problem gambling, then they will not not be put to any inconvenience. They enter and leave as normal. The software is also used to estimate the player’s age to prevent minors entering the arcade.

The latest generation of the Merkur Dispenser 100 – the Gold version – was exhibited. This is fitted as standard in the M-BOX. Gauselmann have produced well over 100,000 of this banknote recycler. The new version has new drive motors, more light guides and improved ban- knote acceptance rates.

The presentations enabled visitors to keep up-to-date with industry regulations. In particular, the presentation made by lawyer Volker Nottelmann explained the latest legal stance concerning arcade laws. The industry is fighting hard against future regulations. For example, it could be possible to continue operating multi-concession arcades in Bavaria (max. machine number 36) and Rhineland Palatinate (max. machine number 48) from 2017 onwards. The state of Hamburg tried like Berlin to reduce the machine number per concession from 12 to eight - but failed. Youth protection /responsible gaming is being interpreted in different ways and at present the state of Hesse is leading the way with the required Sperrdatei (file of banned players).

Gauselmann director Dieter Kuhlmann explained how to make best use of arcade management to secure a bright
