future. Holger Schwarze from adp Gauselmann and Matthias Wellenbrink focused on the restaurant/bar segment.
Thomas Breitkopf, Head of the BA (operator association) looked at the future of commercial gaming, stating the following statistics: there are approx. 9,000 arcades in Germany. Around 200,000 AWPs are situated here, approx. 69,000 in the bar/restaurant segment. The industry pays an annual tax sum of about 1.8 billion euros. More than 70,000 people work in the industry (75% of whom are women). The industry has been offering qualified training positions since 2008.
Kajo Wasserhövel (politician) gave a presentation called ‘The Industry 4.0’ – on how an industry should behave in order to be successful. The aim has to be to make gambling more socially accepted. The strategy is to i) be modern and optimistic, ii) work together in the industry to support common interests, iii) be seen as a partner for politicians, iv) maintain order, v) be socially active, vi) be able to easily explain the value-added of one’s prod- uct or service, vi) be active in associations, vii) be a part- ner for dialogue for science and social institutions and lastly viii) – not to complain too much.
The guests were treated to a special evening with a 3- course meal with an ABBA show. The Gauselmann Group clearly invests in this Industry Summit – and the response to it shows this to be money well spent.
Jürgen Stühmeyer, Group Sales Director
At the Gauselmann industry event, G3 quizzed Jurgen Stuhmeyer about the origins of the Industry Summit...
“The entire industry-political work is brought together under the umbrella organisation ‘Deutschen Automatenwirtschaft’ (DAW), that was founded by the main associations in 2013. It represents the interests of our market participants in a united voice. Thus, regular meetings take place where the industry comes together. We travel with the DAW in the German states to inform the local sections that represent the Association for AWP Operators (BA) and so represent the ideal, political, legal and economic interests of the industry.”
The Industry Summit was born six years ago. We tradi- tionally always carry out our MMM events (Merkur Markt der Möglichkeiten – Merkur Market Opportunities) in autumn at our distribution sub- sidiaries. The Industry Summit has established itself right from the beginning for chosen customers as the exclusive opening event for the autumn exhibitions. Alongside the presentation of our new product innova- tions, the Industry Summit serves as a platform for political discourse and dialogue amongst colleagues, business partners and friends as well. The mixture of products, politics and party has made the Industry Summit a unique and coveted event.
What importance does the Gauselmann Group place on the Industry Summit?
Compared to conventional trade shows, the Industry Summit plays an important role for the Gauselmann Group for its autumn business focus. It is the event sole- ly for our business friends. We have our biggest cus- tomers all for ourselves – the perfect framework to present our latest product highlights. Alongside our development, manufacturing and sales company adp Gauselmann, further Gauselmann subsidiaries such as MEGA and GeWeTe show their latest portfolio.
