Reports MULTI-GAMES MACHINES

Steve Walther joined Konami in 2013 to oversee games product management and his role has since expanded to include both the games and systems areas of the business. As Senior Director of Marketing & Product Management, he is responsible for global product planning, lifecycle support, and performance analysis, which includes gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision and roadmap, and building product launch and marketing strategies.

two to three times per year we’ll receive refreshed content. It doesn’t matter if they are performing really well, you can always improve something, and the vendor must be the first to offer new titles. Te same applies to purchased machines after the expiration of the performance guarantee, usually every 12 to 18 months.”

Speaking to Konami’s Steve Walther, we wanted to know how single games compare to multi- games in terms of time on device, and what are the variable factors that affect performance? eg. does it depend on the market or the type of customers locals/tourists? “For international markets in particular, we’ve found that SeleXion has an advantage over standard video slots in terms of performance and investment value,” explains Mr. Walther. “For smaller and mid-size properties with less floor space, single game cabinets are a greater risk to the organisation because if the theme underperforms then that is a loss for the organisation. But the same space with a multi-game machine has a greater likelihood of success because it includes a broad mix of games that improve the chance of the machine capturing the attention of more people and generating continued revenue. SeleXion gives guests a library of options, so they’re more likely to find games they want to play.”

separates them from single player models, is that the generic nature of the cabinet doesn’t have the show-stopping appeal of a single- themed gaming machine. However, having established the types of locations and player tastes for multi-games, how important is the cabinet in the success of multi-games machines?

“A multi-game isn’t going to reach the same audience as a premium-merchandised licensed machine - it’s a different customer demographic and a different type of revenue for the casino,” says Mr. Walther. “In terms of core video product, Concerto SeleXion provides the same in-game experience that players find on a single-theme Concerto machine. Te game play, resolution, and display are unchanged. Each game theme has its own custom-designed digital topper and button panel art.

“Players can custom select denominations, language, and currency. And SeleXion also has the flexibility to carry standalone progressive and linked progressive games. So the proven popularity of our standard Concerto machine is wholly replicated in SeleXion, but with the added benefit of multi-game functionality.”

It’s still very early days, but as Konami’s new Concerto SeleXion is released into global markets, what have operators experienced with the Podium SeleXion and how do they think

players will receive the new cabinet? “I have excellent performance results with the Podium SeleXion, and the Concerto single games are performing better, so I cannot wait to see the results of the Concerto SeleXion,” states Juan José Rivas Soberon, a conclusion echoed by Mr. Sober.

“We already have the Concerto machines at two of our casinos since June 2016. Tey are equipped with single games right now,” said the Gaming Specialist from Casino Cosmopol. “We will add more Concerto machines early in 2017 and those machines will be equipped with SeleXion mixes. And since we can see very good gaming on the new Concerto cabinets and very good gaming on the SeleXion mixes in the Podium cabinet, I feel quite sure that the Concerto SeleXion will be a success for us.”

HIT Casinos’ Aleksander Skrinjar’s comments underline his conviction in the multi-games offer to his players: “We have been offering SeleXion slot machines for the last two and a half years. Tey have shown very good coin-in and occupancy right from the start. Players have accepted these games and this is also reflected in the positive performance of the slot machines. For this reason, almost all older ‘single game’ machines have been upgraded to multi-game slot machines. I am sure that Concerto slot machines will achieve comparably better results if they come with SeleXion games.
