they feel strongly that multi-games are popular both with casino management and with players. What’s deceptive, however, is that while our contributors hail from both sides of the Atlantic, the voracious appetite for multi-games in Europe and Latin America isn’t repeated in the US, eliciting an indifferent response from operators and players. It’s an issue that our contributors from Sweden and Mexico agree upon – and it’s due to scale.

“I think the differences we see in our casinos can also be applied to other markets,” says Mr. Sober. “Te smaller the site is and the more regular players you have, the more important multi-games become. I also think playing multi-games have become a tradition among the players too.”
“I believe the restriction on the size of a casino or gaming hall is a key factor, with small facilities or restrictions on the allowed numbers of EGDs in a facility, means that operators must try to maximise available space utilising multi- games machines,” emphasises Mr. Rivas.
“Also, in the case of Mexico, the player likes to be served at the terminal, he drinks and has dinner at the terminal (or table game), and they do not want any distractions. All the important European vendors offer multi-game platforms (Novomatic, EGT, Merkur, Apex, Amatic, etc.). Te US is different, normally the casinos or the resorts have huge extensions, with several services attached like souvenir stores, bars, restaurants, a food court among others, with wider aisles too - a facility in the US with 1,000 machines is considered a small casino.”
Te difference in multi-game play in the US versus Europe and Latin America, for both Mr. Sober and Mr. Rivas is two-fold; where playing space is limited, multi-game machines offer a greater spectrum of variety and utility, something that US operators, unhindered by space restrictions, are not concerned with. In addition, players have different expectations of their gaming experience. Regular customers simply want to play the machine, not visit the restaurant and bars or experience anything else a larger resort has to offer – most likely because the location they’re visiting isn’t able to offer those extra services. Te inference being that multi-games not only work as a space efficient option within smaller locations, but the expectations of players in those locations change to accept those restrictions.
Without interviewing or watching the dynamics of a multi-game player from Latin America or Europe visiting a US casino, it’s not possible to predict whether that player would adapt their behavior to fit a new environment or remain constant to their usual style of play.
